Slow-Cooker Apple Spice Cobbler

Tonight's dessert is a slow-cooker apple spice cobbler!

I found this recipe on the Tasty app.

With the fall weather in full effect:

I really hope the room smells

like a warm, welcoming, home🍂

Let's go over the ingredients~

✓ 20 oz apple pie filling, 2 cans

✓ 1 box spice cake mix

✓ 8 oz butter

✓ vanilla ice cream, optional, for serving

( I love caramel, so I chose Lactaid Salted Caramel -

I thought it would be a good combo with the apple + spices )

So first:

I scooped the 2 cans of Apple Pie fruit filling

into my Master Pot slow cooker

Then:

I emptied the box of Spice Cake onto the top of the apples.

The food store I went to, only had this gluten free mix.

( I also didn't measure properly -

I think should've used half the mix,

but we'll see how it comes out! 🥴 )

Next:

I cut the stick of butter into thin slices,

then layered the slices onto the top of the cake mix.

With our slow-cooker set on high >

We put our timer on for 2.5 hours

(Too much of the ingredients in my small size slow cooker/

Next time I'll remember to not rush/

Even though my mouth is watering and belly grumbling...

READ THE DIRECTIONS)

[Others on the forum were saying they had to do 3 or more hours.]

I'm making this at 21:30

Probably going to open the lid at 23:30

It's 23:03 now~

and the room smells soo good

Which completes the fall feelys ✓

It 1000% was not done ಥ‿ಥ

watery, buttery liquid.

let's try again in a half hour

I remembered that someone on Tasty, who had tried this recipe put in a tip, to throw a tea napkin over the top to catch condensation; so I did that for the last half hour.

It definitely helped crispy-fy the top of the cobbler.

We taste tested it and because I used a whole cake mix, the top of the cobbler was still powdery, and baked a literal cake ontop of the apples, rather it being a good cake-apple ratio.

Ice cream time

Add the delicious ice cream ontop of the warm apple spice cobbler.

The salted caramel ice cream was a v good idea.

Final thoughts:

Let's be honest,

I definitely did not succeed at that batch.

(◡﹏◡✿)

It's okay though; I still liked the overall taste of the outcome, but next time I'll remember:

  • To find some better ingredients

  • And probably use less butter

  • Use half the recommended cake mix - use more apples than cake mix (since those are the best part of the whole dessert)

  • Don't forget to use the tea napkin, but I also liked using it at the end of the bake

  • The ice cream is a must for the final result

There's my tried and tested review of this Tasty recipe.

I will find a recipe I like a bit more than what this tasted like;

probably around Thanksgiving time.

Let me know if you decided on baking this recipe and what you (most definitely) did differently than mine, so next time it won't be as cake-y.
